As a result of the recent NOCSAE de-certification of Cascade R helmets, there has been a lot of confusion regarding the current status and a number of questions have arisen as a result...
Some quick answers...
Can the helmets be fixed? Will the helmets be recalled?
Currently, this is TBD (To Be Determined). Cascade and Warrior (their Regulator helmet was also de-certified) are working with NOCSAE in order to resolve this issue ASAP.
My son / daughter (girls goalie) plays winter ball... can they wear their Cascade R?
No. Because US Lacrosse requires NOCSAE certification, participants may only wear certified helmets.
Will this be resolved by this spring or do I need to buy another helmet?
Unknown at this point. Cascade is hoping that the R can be re-certified via a minor modification and enhanced fitting instructions!!!
With the holidays in mind, should I be purchasing a new helmet now or waiting?
Algonkian's recommendation is to wait until the de-certification issue is resolved. Older model helmets (CPX-R, Pro 7, CS, etc.) may be called in for re-certification, so the recommendation is to delay your purchase until you have assurance that the helmet can be used in the future.
